Occupational therapy serving the New Forest and surrounding areas
I am an independent Occupational Therapist with over 25 years of clinical experience. I am passionate about working with children, young people and their families to navigate challenges and reach the milestones that are important to them. I have specific expertise in working with autistic children and young people. I also have a clinical interest in attachment and trauma and have worked extensively with young people and their families in the fostering and adoption world.
I am a certified sensory integration practioner (Ulster University) and ASI-WISE. I am also a Sensory Attachment certified therapist, level 1, (Breathnach). I have completed Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy training, level 1 and 2 (Psychology Associates) and am trained in Marschak Interaction Method.
I am a lifelong learner and ensure I work to integrate the latest evidence into practice ensuring I can do the very best for the children and families I serve. I regularly provide training, mentorship and supervision to fellow therapists, schools and organisations. I am a Mum and live in the New Forest with my husband and two teenage children.
Quality Occupational Therapy assessment is an absolute cornerstone of my work. Where it is possible (within a child/young person’s window of capacity) I work to complete standardised assessments, so we have a clear conceptualisation of difficulties and strengths.
Occupational Therapy assessment involves spending time in educational provision if the child is accessing it, to understand issues from grass roots level and ensure I understand and evaluate the child’s/young person’s strengths and challenges where issues may be most apparent.
I regularly assess for EHCP need identification and carry out tribunal assessment for solicitors and county councils.
Occupational Therapy intervention takes place in the most comfortable environment for the child/young person and family. This may be home environment, school or a clinic setting.
I closely measure the progress of occupational therapy input against pre-set goals collaboratively set with child/young person/ family. As part of intervention, I often provide consult to schools/college to ensure everyone is understanding and responding to underlying needs of child/young person.
I am deeply committed to training for parents, educational and healthcare professionals. A large part of my training is to ensure I leave lasting resources to maximise the currency for training and be catalyst for new ways of approaching problems.
Please contact me to discuss fees for comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessments and treatment sessions. I can also provide quotes for formal group or individual training events.
